Will stop trying to WORK HARD at WORKING HARDER…

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

I guess I have been busying myself in schoolwork and stuff and haven’t taking a step back to review what I have done…

The matra “If they DO WELL because they WORK HARD, then I will just WORK HARDER!!!” has been at the back of my mind pushing me to work harder for the past 2 months… But all the hardwork comes to naught especially with that “Just do it, think later…” mentality of mine, wasting the 2 months…. Maybe its still not too late to just do a little thinking…

And perhaps that will save me some time for myself, her and everybody else….

Minna… Kangaete ite ganbarimashou!!!

私の部屋 (My Room)

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Random essay/filler entry cos I am too busy….. Its something I did for Jap class, recycling it here.. Hahahaz… I am so lazy…. (No pictures.. Sorry!!!)

今の部屋になってから15年になります、それでもこの部屋は変わりません。多分、この部屋は私が寝たり、読んだり、勉強する所だけから。(私は読むことと勉強がすきじゃありません!)

My current room has been around for 15 years, but it has not changed much. This is probably because all I do in my room is sleep, read and study. (And I do not like reading or studying!)

私の部屋に入ると2つベッドがあります。1つのベッドが私の、もう一方のベッドが弟のです。でも、いま弟は「National Service」がありますから。平日は部屋で私だけが寝ます。

Upon entering my room, one will see two beds. One belongs to me, and the other belongs to my brother. But right now my brother is undergoing National Service, thus I am the only one sleeping in my room on weekdays.

私の部屋はとても乱雑です。いろいろ本と勉強する物が散らかっています。個人の部屋が個人の性格を示します。ええ、私はとても乱雑な人です。

My room is very messy. There are various books and studying materials scattered around it. One’s room shows one’s character. Yes, I am a very messy person.

でも、私の部屋で私はただ寝るだけです!

But all I do is sleep in my room!

2 days of Recess Break….. 5 more to go!!!

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

So far two days of recess break has passed……

Finally had the time to catch up with the series I have beeen following, got my badminton racket regripped with a nice ‘Pacific’ grip (Hahahaz.. Thx Greg for bringing me to the badminton shop) and played some AH (been a long time since I played)…. Anyways, that was yesterday…..

Made Jap curry today…..

Ingredients:

Ingredients for Curry

Curry:

End Product - Curry

Hahaaz… Blogging about this makes me feel hungry all over again…. So I guess I should just end it here, before I have to cook myself instant noodles…

Also read ‘The Catcher in The Rye’ by J.D. Salinger which was quoted from numerous times in ‘Ghost in the Shell’…. The most famous one would probably be: ‘I thought what I’d do was, I’d pretend to be one of those deaf-mutes….’

Well ‘The Catcher in The Rye’ makes quite an interesting read… The narration was definitely one of a kind, and well the story itself is also intriguing and quite touching….

Guess the next story I will be reading will be ‘The Laughing Man’ by J.D. Salinger, the original story that gave us “The Laughing Man” in ‘Ghost in the Shell’.

Badminton….. New Racket!!!

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Yay! Just got myself a new badminton racket yesterday… (Unrecorded Want Fulfilled) Tried it out today with Greg and the rest in Clementi Sports Hall today…. Feels better than the indestructable rackets of steel I used to use… (My playing was worse than usual tho) The grip seems to be “worned out”.. (Part of it stucked to the plastic wrapping when I was removing it….) Gotta change it soon!!!

Yonex Isometric 23 VF

Ya… Anyways I bought the racket in under 5 mins??? It was quite ironic since I was complaining about the lack of choices in Whitesands Sportslink…. The whole sequence of me buying the racket went like this: 1) Walk into store… Stunned by the many different rackets… 2) Storekeeper came over to ask if I needed help… 3) Asked him what’s a good racket that’s about $40… He immediately answered “Iso 23 VF”, showed me the racket… 4) Decided on buying it after like 3 seconds?!?!?

Hahaz… I guess I am like that… I will complain a lot about lack of choices, but when I actually do get the many different choices, I will decide that its too troublesome to decide by myself anyways….

Anyways, haven’t decided if the racket is worth the money yet…. Shall play more and see… Hopefully the badminton playing will continue on as a weekly thing….

Uni, Sch and everything in between…….

Just finished watching Byousoku 5cm…. Hahahaz…. Wanna watch it again!!!! Shall post about it next time….

2+ weeks of University life has passed, and I have sorta adapted (I hope) to it…..

  • Sign #1 - I am no longer staying up late to do tutorials (its always better to do them after you get the solutions)
  • Sign #2 - Quitted a CCA.. No point going to a CCA you don’t enjoy and will eventually quit….
  • Sign #3 - Came out with alternatives like… Tennis, hopefully Squash… and ya Climbing….
  • Sign #4 - Finally got down to watching Byousoku 5cm… This means I am able to set my priorities right now…

I think that’s enough points for today….

Anyways I am enjoying a 4 day week at the expense of next semester (6 modules… But that’s really next semester’s problem, isn’t really in my list of problems yet….)… So my free day is on Tuesday…. So.. No monday blues for me….. Although I kinda dread Fridays which starts at 8am and ends at 8pm…. (At least it ends with German lecture which I like….)

Ok will come out with a kofplayer style summary….. Lolx….

[EC1301 : Principle of Economics]
Its quite interesting…. Especially when its my first time taking Econs… The current lecturer is actually my tutor too… Hahax…. I guess he is a better tutor than a lecturer… Ya.. The tutorials are actually quite enlightening as he is able to touch on stuff he skimmed past during the lectures…. Sorta fills up the ideas presented during the lectures… I guess I will have to start participating in the discussions in the forum in the IVLE… Haix… Why do they have to count that as part of CA!??!?!?!

[EG1109 : Statics and Mechanics of Materials]
Nope.. Not buying the coursebook for this subject…. What kinda lecturer does not upload their lecture notes and ask his students to buy this book he wrote, which is essentially lecture notes…. -_-”‘ I am coping fine without the coursebook… Even if I am getting a book, it will be the textbook… Hahahahz…

[PC1431 : Physics for Engineering I]
Still doing Mechanics questions…… Doing fine…..

[MA1505 : Mathematics 1]
I finally sorta settled differentiation… Now I just have to try and remember how to integrate…. Which means ALC-style whacking of questions (which I should start tomorrow)…. Hope that will help me remember how to integrate and enable me to complete my tutorial that was dued 2 days ago….

[LAG1201 :German 1]
My favourite module…. Which I might not do well in…. Its fun, learning a new language…. But not easy too… My pronunciation of German words is still…. Quite bad… But I guess I will get it soon….

Food in NUS Engin Canteen!

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Random food pics from NUS Engin Canteen aka Techno Edge…..

The Grilled Chicken Set from the Indonesian Stall :

Grilled Chicken Set

This is the Chicken Kebab Set from the same Indonesian Stall :

Chicken Kebab Set

And this is the Tempura Set from…. Ya… The Japanese Stall :

Tempura Set

After a week at NUS, The Indonesian stall has become my favourite stall @ Techno Edge…. Mostly bcos of its Grilled Chicken Set…. Which consist of a piece of really juicy chicken thigh with bbq sauce, a piece of fried egg and rice with curry….. Hahaz… *Thinks I am a fan of the Indonesian Stall Grilled Chicken Set already…*

The Chicken Kebab Set was not bad too…. But I will still go back to the Indonesian stall for the Grilled Chicken not the Kebab!!!!

And finally the Tempura set…. I don’t usually see tempura vegetables in foodcourts/hawker centres…. So was really tempted to try after seeing a friend order…. Well…. The Tempura ebi was not bad… Kinda enjoyed it.. But the vegetable tempura felt a bit too soft… Its not supposed to be soft right? (I think not, from my experience at Warraku….) The miso soup was also not bad….. And then there’s the salad…. Not bad ba… Budden… I am not that picky when it comes to salad….

Best thing about food in NUS is still the price ba…. The Grilled Chicken Set is $2.80, Kebab $2.60 and Tempura $3.80….. Muahhahahahz….. Good way to save money…..

Anyways…. Yup.. One week of NUS life…. Ok one week of official NUS school life… (Excluding Orientation Week…)
Haven’t really started tutorials yet so…. I can’t really say that I am busy…. But having two German lectures that end at 8pm don’t really help…. It doesn’t help when I want to join CCAs that have practices at 6pm too…. *sigh*

Certain days are kinda free like today, no lessons!!!! While others are like Friday (8am - 8pm 4x 2 hours lectures)…. Its kinda hard to fit other stuff into the schedule too… Ya everyone has like different timetables….. Sucks lo…… Haix…..

Hmm.. Anyways… Did I mention that I have like 4 CCAs now…. Mostly do nothing CCAs that I intend to drop…. But just signed up for fun first….. The 6-8pm German Lectures are really quite a pain…. Come Sem 2, I will chiong for a more balanced timetable with nothing in my 6-8pm slots!!!!

1st Day of Sch!!!!!!!

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Haven’t been blogging for awhile…. Too tired since last week was Orientation Week….

Well.. O Week was kinda fun… Gotta know quite a few people in Engin…..

Ya… Anyways…. Today’s the first day of school!!!!! Kinda excited to go for boring lectures….

Kinda got a preview of my first lecture already, which does not seem the least bit interesting? Its more like a talk about the syllabus and what to expect for the rest of the semester….. Seriously hopes that my German lecture will be better, but will probably be textbook-less tomorrow….

Went out with Ber to search for textbooks at Bras Basah today….. Didn’t get anything, but ate the fabled Ber’s Unagi set from Sim Lim….

Its not bad ba…. One big piece of unagi! a bowl of rice and a bowl of miso… Thinks the cost price of the unagi will probably be more than half of the $6.30 price of this set…..

KK…. School tomorrow… Ciao!

Engine Talks…

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Went for the day long Faculty of Engineering Talk yesterday, from 10am to 430pm, with EY, Yac, Ber, Ber’s friend (Denis), Yac’s friend (CCK).

The talk was kinda boring throughout… But we sorta got an understanding of how Modular Credits and Bidding works… Sorta….

Other than that the only message that probably got across was “you made the right choice in choosing NUS Engine Fac!” and “you made the right choice in choosing NUS Mechanical Engineering!”….

Other random stuff we did included signing up for Engin O week, finding how to get to McDonalds’ from LT7a, finding a new route back to LT7a from McDonalds’ and finding out how much walking there will be (in the near future) while walking from LT7 to Yusoff Ishak House…..

We also found out how to get to the Clementi’s branch of Botak Jones’…

I had a Botak Jones’ Double Burger Set:

Botak Jones' Burget Set

Ber had a Giant Italian Sausage Set:

Giant Italian Sausage Set

I guess portion-wise…. Can’t really complain…. Botak Jones’ Double Burger set is like $9.50…. Kinda didn’t finish it…. The Giant Italian Sausage Set was $8 and Ber didn’t finish it too….

The fries was not bad ba… The chilli powder reminds me of fries in Taiwan…. Ahahhaax…. Coleslaw was not bad also….. the beef patty wasn’t good.. But its too well done for my taste…. Overall its a good Western meal ba… But really hafta beat the dinner crowd to avoid the long queues…. Should be trying other stuff next time ba… Seems like I will be frequenting this place for the next few years…..

Tweaking of Bio-clocks and Fantasy Books

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Have been doing some reading for the past week or so in a bid to tweak my bio-clock before Uni begins…

Ok… Lemme explain… Since #1 books = boring…. #2 I read on lying my bed…. #3 Reading Fantasy books is a relaxing activity… Haix… Can’t think of anymore reasons…. Anyways the main reason is it gets me off the computer and on the bed.. So I am like one step closer to sleeping….

So.. Ya, that’s why I am usually gone by 11pm, to read some book and try to sleep…. But it sorta doesn’t work.. I still sleep at around 2-3am

So anything up to this point is just pointless crap….

Anyways, that was how I ended up reading about 2-3 hours a day, and I have finished Terry Brook’s High Druid of Shannara trilogy, David Eddings’ The Elenium and also a couple of Arthur C. Clarke books (Science fiction)….. I guess its good to get back to reading something before Uni begins…

But I sorta ended up reading more an more Fantasy books… Lolx…

In a bid to look for something I like… Although I am kinda corrupted by Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (the book), into thinking that a good Fantasy book will have to have this huge world with lots of different races (not just people) and also lots of characters with family histories that can probably be written into series if the author bothered….

Didn’t really like High Druid of Shannara because the story was kinda slow, not enough historyThe Elenium focused on too much racial/religion topics(?), with the knights talking like US. marines…. Just stating the stuff that I don’t like about them… I did finish reading them after all… So they aren’t that bad I guess… Currently picking up Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time and also Eddings’s The Belgaraid

I am currently sleeping at 12+pm and waking up at 9am, thanks to a few morning sessions of tennis and also meeting up in the morning to ride around Ubin…. Just need to wake up a little earlier…..

Sunday run resumed??

Monday, July 16th, 2007

With yesterday’s run at East Coast Park, I can finally declare that my break from Sunday runs has ended (the last run was 3 weeks ago)… Quite tiring to run after such a long break… *Thinks I will need to run more….

After that we (Aloy, Benji, Meleen. Yong Kang and I) had Katong Laksa at 328 Katong Laksa (also coyed by Alvin as the “red-haired auntie Katong Laksa”)… that kinda reminded me about our NSF days (which seems so distant now) when we ended up there in many occasions after Saturday book outs or Life-runs…. Anyways the laksa was good this time much unlike the last encounter which left us feeling that the gravy was too thick…. [Sighx… Didn’t occur to me that I should have taken a photo or 2 since this is the only Laksa store we frequent regularly…]

After laksa, Aloy drove us to Island Creamery, this Ice Cream/Dessert place @ Serene Centre off Bukit Timah Road…. Hahax… Funny that I haven’t heard of it until yesterday, especially after like 6 years of studying in that area…. Maybe I wasn’t an ice cream sorta person till the army days…. Ok.. Back to topic…. The place was like completely filled with people when we reach there? We had to settle for some tables outside, but it wasn’t that bad outside… Island Cremery has quite a lot of interesting flavours that can’t be seen anywhere else? Erm… Like…. Burbur Hitam, Chendol, Kahlua Latte, ReversO…. I had a double scoop, Kahlua Latte and Soursop… Kahlua Latte was like milky coffee (wonders where the alcohol went though couldn’t detect any….) but still it was quite creamy and enjoyable…. and soursop was like fine ice-blended soursop (quotes Yong Kang) it was quite enjoyable tho tastes exactly like how good soursop would taste…

Here are some photos… (#1 from left Very Berry, Strawberry Sorbet, Kahlua Latte and Soursop. #2 Inside of Island Creamery. #3 The Sign.)

Ice Cream!!!

Where we cldn't sit in...

Bad Photo...

Yup.. We chatted there until about 9:30pm??? It was quite interesting and enjoyable, the eating and chatting part, but whatever eaten must have replaced whatever calories we burnt, since we ran quite a lot less than usual….
